War is a profane habit. As a habit, it demeans our humanity and most of all, as a nation, our supposed Christian ideals. We have found that those same precepts of peace and respect do not vary much from the other major religions. All of which makes it that much more profane.
There did not appear to be a reasonable way to portray the war experience, the feelings and the pathos without the use of profanity at times, both as part of the pained dialogue and as a part of that military cultural tradition.
